Vanishing - Shelter of the Opaque
Vanishing is the project of Gareth Smith. His stunning new album Shelter Of The Opaque seizes quotidian reality and either scrapes away at the veneer to reveal the awful machinery of how things are underneath or overlays it with a gossamer filigree to suggest how they could be instead. Shelter of the Opaque is out today via state51
"State-of-the-nation spoken word, industrial electronics, sprawling free jazz, and evocative string-led minimalism" Ransom Note

Senyawa - Vajranala
Senyawa announce new album Vajranala - due for release 3rd May 2024 via state51. Vajranala is an exercise in understanding the root of the power (knowledge) discussed in their 2021 release Alkisah. When it comes to 'power', says Senyawa vocalist Rully Shabara, "People will normally think of someone political, but I don't think that's the case. The origin of power goes deeper than that." It's the shamans, he says who were the first possessors of power: "If you're in the village, if you're considered to have the knowledge to connect people with the realm of the gods, then you will have power before the leader. It's very fundamental to explore this."
