Recorded in 2025 between Preston and London, the track hears home recordings blur with studio production from LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip’s Al Doyle, whose electronic credentials signify a new chapter for the band, developing their signature dark-hued dreampop into a more electronic-leaning, club-adjacent sound.
“We’ve always found ourselves drawn to the idea of sad dance music, and ‘Tear’ feels like it’s a culmination of that fascination. It’s an attempt to capture a very specific feeling, the energy of tragic euphoria. An energy that can change for everyone who listens and even change multiple times within those listeners. It is a space where you don't know whether you are happy or sad, and it doesn't matter, you are just in the moment.”
