We’re kicking off a new chapter of our 51 editions series with the introduction of SINGULARITY.

SINGULARITY spawned from an invitation to musicians from The Quietus’ John Doran: ‘‘We have always thought the idea that people don’t like concentrating on music for long periods, when there are so many other distractions, was a bit dodgy. We know you don’t feel that way, and that’s why we want you to go extra long for us." Eight SINGULARITY singles will be released each year and the concept is simple: the artists chosen will write and record a single long form track, under 29-minutes long. The track will then be released digitally, first to TQ subscribers then more widely, as well as being released as part of the 51 editions: on beautiful, hand crafted, lathe cuts. 51 editions will be made for each release with the 51st being presented in a specially designed box, foil-stamped with the logo and interior lined with hand-marbled endpapers incorporating elements of the original artwork.

Our first release in the SINGULARITY series comes from Alison Cotton. What You Told Me In The Horse and Carriage is a 19-minute drone voyage in a folk vessel. Cottons vocal is wordless but spectral, a swelling to complement the deeply sustained viola/violin notes of this piece, joined near the end by restless free-spirited percussion. A haunting, ethereal long form meditation, transporting the listener to the 19th Century.

What You Told Me In The Horse and Carriage 12”s have SOLD OUT but will be released digitially on 24.02.2022. SINGULARITY releases from Shit and Shine, Siavash Amini, Matmos are available for pre-order! And VÄLVĒ’s full-length 51 edition release Geography is also selling now.

Alison will be performing to launch the record at GREED (Great Records Every Ear Deserves) alongside VÄLVĒ on Feb 25th 2022 - a brand new pop-up in Shoreditch at the state51. More info / invitations to come to subscribers of this mailing list!
