Towards the end of Leos Carax’s film Les Amants du Pont-Neuf, two destitute lovers careen down the Seine as Paris explodes with fireworks, a vision of love where beauty and ruin are struck from the same flint. That image became a central anchor for South London songwriter Clara Mann’s second album, Wishbone.

Following the nostalgic introspection of her 2025 debut Rift, Mann set out to imagine good things for herself. Likening the album’s title to Marina Abramović’s Rest Energy, a drawn bow held in total trust and possibility of ruin, Wishbone embraces the precarious risk of being held. "I wasn’t interested in hiding behind the songs anymore," Mann admits. "I wanted to live, and to write, from that feeling."

Anchoring this shift is lead single News From Home, a track that showcases Mann’s assured vocals and a willingness to write from conviction rather than open questions. Produced by 4AD's Fabian Prynn at Norfolk’s Bam Bam Studios, the album expands her demos into something bright and shimmering, backed by live players on double bass, cello, viola, and banjo. Reaching for the performance-driven spirit of Fiona Apple and Tom Waits while keeping faith with plainspoken English balladry, Wishbone captures an artist deciding to want a good life out loud.
