Bingo Fury releases new single 'Power Drill', out now via state51
One of the UK avant-garde’s most exciting new voices, we're over the moon to welcome Bristol-based multi-instrumentalist Bingo Fury to the state51 label with his latest single, Power Drill - out now
Known for creating wholly new and experimental sonic worlds, ‘Power
Drill’ effortlessly blends Steve Reich-esque piano arpeggios with a
furious, punk-infused guitar frenzy. A testament to his unparalleled ability to
defy convention, the track was recorded in a local church on the outskirts of
Bristol that has never been used for recording music before. The echoes of this
space are woven into ‘Power Drill’, adding an ethereal dimension to
an otherwise turbulent and complex composition.
This track was written by Bingo Fury on a mobile app while on the road
working as a touring sound engineer: “Power Drill was conceived
on iPhone Garage Band while travelling through Italy in April 22’. Around
this time I’d decided that using Atonality & Dissonance in my songs
felt like a cop out way of making something arresting. Power Drill is a first
attempt at trying to make something abrasive while keeping melody & tonality
intact, which doesn’t come so naturally to me.”
Although very much a solo songwriter, Bingo Fury’s compositional process
relies on contributions from his entire band - bassist Megan
Jenkins, and drummer Henry Terrett have been
playing together since their teens. In one of their various incarnations, they
recruited local avant-jazz legend, cornet player Harry
‘Iceman’ Furniss, with guitarist and
percussionist Rafi Cohen later completing the
line-up.
Enjoy!
