Siavash Amini

“A very special piece - I would implore you to listen to the whole piece in full at your earliest opportunity… you must promise me!” - Mary Anne Hobbs

A decade after this Iranian avant-garde composer’s first releases, Siavash Amini delivers one of the Singularity Series lathe-cut 12”s that are scheduled to drop monthly in 2022, and were commissioned by music website The Quietus in collaboration with state51. A single 18-minute piece cut to one side of the disc, it finds Amini in the realm of tension-wracked, digitally enhanced string drone. Sometimes the tonal dips and curves he crafts are ambient, almost peaceful, but discord is never far away. The phalanx of creaks and glitches beneath the strings could, equally possibly, derive from the natural world or direct from a computer plugin – either way they serve as a warning of storms ahead, although the backmasked rumble of electroacoustics heard in the first half minute of this piece telegraph that plenty well to start with. Amini is a bold and greatly talented musician and the opportunity to own a release of his, alongside only 50 other people, should be a mighty tempter.

The release is not out yet but we wanted to give our subsribers a sneek peak and listen to the track, which you can do here:

If any of you came to the Summer Party, you might have seen Nathan's Kaleidobscura, at his kaleidoscope workshop in the garden. Well, we used it to make this little visualiser (that's what they're called when they're not proper videos.)
